DSC00026One time he was talking to three journalists who were visiting in the office and they were talking of ways to present and handle the news.  No editorial comments, no slants, they agreed.  But Peter insisted that journalists should make history as well as write about it.  We all know how William Randolph Hearst has made it.

Have you ever worked in a newspaper office?, one of the men asked Peter, perhaps with a touch of condescension.

Yes, once in Chicago, I worked with the Associated Press, Peter said, wielding a mop, not a pen.
