Prayer And Supplication And Peace

Saturday I drove across the Canadian prairie and delivered food to people who needed it…a lot of food.  Saturday afternoon I went to the sacrament of reconciliation.  And Saturday night I stayed with a friend and we went to Mass together on Sunday, ate a lunch and then I drove home.  In a very coarse way of seeing it, this marked the conclusion of a year in farming…enough food for us and guests remains.  But I would not say that we sense any accomplishment in this past weekend’s actions…more like the cycling into another winter…not even the closure of a season of growth and harvest.  One day leads into another.  And we continue in this perpetual dance with God.  Sunday morning we sat on his couch and shared the daily readings together from the Liturgy of the Hours.  It was a grand time to sit with another and then worship in church and then sup at his table.  A verse I had memorized in 1976 came back to me on my ride home…

Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything with prayer and supplication make your requests know to God, and the peace that passes all understanding will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

…and so it was and so it is.
